NeuPTTech Driving "PT for Pain" Initiative Forward

By Jason Waz, President of Competitive Edge Physical Therapy
NeuPTTech Driving "PT for Pain" Initiative ForwardIn an effort to diminish the effects of the opioid crisis across the nation, NeuPTTech strives to propel the physical therapy world forward in their mission to break the cycle of chronic pain in the body through educating physical therapy providers and sharing cutting-edge technology to achieve these goals. As the scientific community learns more about the nervous system inputs contributing to pain, NeuFit is the leading manufacturer of technology developed to “reset” the pain pathways developed by the body. In turn, this decreases pain and promotes mobility necessary for recovery.
Jason D. Waz, President of Competitive Edge Physical Therapy (CEP), founded NeuPTTech in order to bring innovation and technology to the next generation of the physical therapy profession. Competitive Edge was the first clinic to utilize NeuFit’s technology in outpatient physical therapy anywhere in the world! Jason is also leading efforts in stimulating University-based research on this same technology and its application for unsurpassed healing.
Individuals dealing with chronic pain find it difficult to get through daily tasks and their quality of life often pales in comparison to their peers. Chronic pain may lead to addiction of pain medications, and even suicidal thoughts and actions, which has made it the recent focus of health care teams. The opioid epidemic is a growing issue in our country. The CDC reports that nearly half of all opioid-related deaths are due to the narcotic being prescribed for pain related circumstances such as lower back pain, nerve and joint disorders, arthritis, and spinal injury. They also estimate that 42,249 deaths annually are related to opioid overdose, and that number is on the rise.
Recently, the Florida Physical Therapy Association (FPTA) has launched an initiative called “PT For Pain” to combat the opioid crisis by increasing awareness and access to physical therapists to address chronic pain conditions that previously have been treated by pain medication and invasive surgeries. Their goal is to educate the public on the benefits of seeking physical therapy to manage their condition. More information on this movement is available at www.ptforpain.org.
CEP utilizes NeuFit’s “Neubie” machine to advance this agenda with a technology-forward approach to achieve pain management goals, helping patients to overcome chronic pain and move better. The Neubie specifically identifies faults in the pain-signaling pathway, resets them, and then promotes normal movement patterns. Changing the “threat” inputs to the nervous system doesn’t just mask the pain as traditional TENS therapy; instead, it corrects the underlying root of
dysfunction.
NeuFit & NEUBIE
Waz’s NeuPTTech company is focused on educating patients and practitioners on the NEUBIE, developed by Texas-based company NeuFit, which stands for NEURO-BIO-ELECTRIC STIMULATOR. It is an electrical stimulation device that accelerates the client’s progress in both fitness and injury recovery by enhancing the body’s own internal processes. Contrary to popular belief it is not your typical TENS unit; NEUBIE is unique in that it uses direct current rather than alternating current, so it doesn’t lock up your muscle when using it at high intensities. By using NEUBIE to stimulate the neurological system, you’re able to affect the inputs to the nervous system while still maintaining functional movement patterns.

Patient Testimonials:
“I’ve been in and out of CEP since I was a senior in high school. Originally I went in there to see Jason who rehabbed my surgically repaired shoulder. Jason was able to get me healthy in time to finish my senior season at East Lake and helped prepare me to play college football at USF. Jason and his team provide a great atmosphere at CEP where everyone is there to assist you in returning stronger than ever with whatever you were doing before the injury. The NEUFIT machine is definitely one of my favorites, it help me stay healthy when preparing for my NFL Pro Day. If you need anything rehabbed or treated, you need to head down to Jason and the gang at CEP.”
-Devin Abraham, D1 College Football Player
I’ve been coming to Competitive Edge over the years for various injuries. One of the things I most appreciate about CEP over other physical therapists is that they identify a treatment protocol, generally with a short number of sessions, and try to get you back into your exercise or sport as soon as possible. Other physical therapists generally want to see you 3 times per week for 6 weeks which is very time consuming and expensive. For my most recent injury, they used an electrical stimulation (NEUFIT) machine that not only diagnoses the area of injury (which is not always where you feel the pain) but also treats the underlying muscle dysfunction. I’ve been treated by Jason, Stephanie and Daily and the quality of care from all three was outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend CEP!” -Laurel Impett Wolfgram
