DIABETIC?

You May Qualify for Shoes at Little to No Out of Pocket Costs Why Diabetic Footwear and orthotics are covered by Insurance

By Bruce Hancock, Certified Pedorhist –
In 1995, Congress amended Medicare statutes to provide reimbursement for shoes and orthotics for people who suffer from diabetes under Medicare Part B. The Centers for Disease Control has estimated that 86,000 lower limb amputations due to diabetes occur annually and experts agree that most are preventable with good fitting footwear and custom orthotics.
How Do I Qualify?
Any physician who manages your diabetes is called a certifying physician. The certifying physician must state the following:
A. You have diabetes mellitus.
(Type one or type two)
B. You exhibit one or more of the below conditions:
1.    History of partial or complete amputation of the foot
2.    History of previous foot ulceration
3.    History of pre-ulcerative callus
4.    Peripheral neuropathy with evidence of callus formation
5.    Foot deformity
6.    Poor circulation
What is Reimbursable?
Within a given calendar year (January-December), a qualifying patient can receive from Medicare/2ndary insurance one pair of shoes and three pairs of orthotics.

Bruce Hancock, Certified Pedorthist, has been servicing the Central Florida area for years, and has built a reputation of caring and trust. After you have been approved for the shoes and orthotics, meaning no out of pocket expense, he calls and schedules an appointment to come directly to your home, or any place you choose, to do a custom fitting. There, he measures your feet, does a visual evaluation of your feet, and takes a mold impression of your feet to manufacture a custom orthotic that is unique to you and your foot. The shoes/orthotics take approximately 3 weeks, and then Bruce will call to personally deliver them to you. This personalized service is why diabetic patients return to him year after year.
So, if you are diabetic, or if you know someone who has diabetes, please call his local office (The Villages) to start the ball rolling. The questions the office staff will ask will be basic questions such as; who is the doctor who manages your diabetes, what insurance company do you have; i.e. Medicare/Medicaid/Humana/United Health Care etc. Approval can take as little as a day or two, and after approval, again meaning no out of pocket cost, Bruce will call to come to your home for the custom shoe fitting. It really is that simple. So Please Call:
